Job Description

Position summary


As a Data Center Energy Strategic Negotiator, you will apply real estate expertise, technology industry knowledge, and an understanding of electrical and HVAC systems to secure development-ready sites and support Google's growth. You will combine deep market knowledge with tech-industry savvy to find solutions that support Google's expansion, guiding project teams, overseeing off-site utility infrastructure, managing relationships with officials, utilities, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), and presenting portfolio recommendations to technical leadership.

By structuring renewable power purchase agreements and setting energy procurement strategy focused on carbon-free energy, you help Google expand its data center portfolio cost-effectively and sustainably.


Key responsibilities


  • Energy negotiations: Lead negotiations and structure energy supply, renewable energy power purchase agreements, partnerships/JVs, and other data center-related energy agreements.
  • Site due diligence: Contribute to the growth of Google's data center portfolio by driving energy due diligence during site selection and project development.
  • Procurement strategy: Set strategy for Google's energy procurement program, ensuring procurement of carbon-free energy to support Google's clean energy goals.
  • Approvals: Develop and drive agreement approvals, investment memos, and transaction materials with executives and partner teams, collaborating across teams on execution.
  • Supplier relationships: Manage relationships with key suppliers including utilities, IPPs, project developers, and other partners.


Team and stakeholders


You will work within Google's Strategic Negotiation team, guiding project teams and partnering with executives, technical leadership, utilities, IPPs, project developers, officials, and AHJs.


Key details


  • Locations: Preferred working location from Sunnyvale, CA; Austin, TX; New York, NY; Reston, VA; San Francisco, CA; Thornton, CO; or Washington, DC.
  • Compensation: $150,000 to $217,000 USD, plus 15 percent bonus target, equity, and benefits.
  • Application window: Open until at least September 10, 2026.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience negotiating and structuring agreements or leading business development.
  • Experience with energy transaction structuring, US power markets (wholesale and retail), utility rates, renewable energy technologies, or power infrastructure project management.
  • Preferred: 8 years of experience in energy project development, utility procurement, or finance/consulting; experience with power transmission and distribution, telecommunications infrastructure, data center technology, and electrical and cooling systems; experience managing utility agreements, financial modeling, and clean energy initiatives; and experience in indirect taxes, economic development policy, infrastructure development, agreement drafting, and data center real estate markets.
