Position summary
Microsoft is hiring a Construction Environmental Program Manager within its Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) Environmental Construction Compliance team, supporting delivery of its data centre development portfolio across EMEA. The role manages environmental risk across complex, large-scale data centre construction projects from pre-construction to handover to operations.

Key responsibilities
- Lead environmental delivery across the construction phase, coordinating with key teams to meet project timelines.
- Coordinate contractor scopes by clarifying environmental requirements for tenders and supporting procurement through bid preparation, evaluation, and award.
- Build site teams by assessing contractor capability and recruiting, onboarding, and supporting site environmental managers.
- Ensure deliverables by making sure environmental control documents, permit conditions, and requirements are in place from kick-off to completion.
- Monitor performance by tracking environmental data quality, risks, and compliance, driving corrective action and escalating trends to leadership.
- Provide expertise on environmental risk, sustainability, and impact reduction, building capability through training and coordinating handover to operations.
Team and stakeholders
The role sits within CO+I's Environmental Construction Compliance team and engages Microsoft legal, design, construction, and operations teams, regulatory agencies, and outside consultants and contractors across EMEA.
Key details
- Based in London (plus two further locations); fully remote (0 days/week in office), travel less than 25%.
- Supports Microsoft's EMEA data centre construction portfolio.
- Requires passing the Microsoft Cloud background check on hire and every two years.
- UK base pay range £70,300 to £133,900 (Italy and Ireland ranges also listed).
Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or extensive equivalent experience.
- Significant direct experience managing environmental risk on fast-paced infrastructure projects in line with legal and best-practice requirements.
- Experience implementing Environmental Impact Assessments and other environmental permits.
Preferred
- Local community and stakeholder engagement experience.
- Experience delivering projects in multiple jurisdictions.
