Position summary
SSE is recruiting Consents & Environment Graduates into SSEN Transmission, starting September 2027. Based in Aberdeen, Inverness, or Perth, the graduate gains hands-on experience across the transmission project lifecycle — supporting environmental assessments, site inspections, and consenting — while developing toward a future career as a Consents and Environment Manager.

Key responsibilities
- Support environmental work by assisting with environmental assessments and site inspections across the transmission project lifecycle.
- Review documentation by checking project documents and working with engineering and construction teams to avoid or minimise environmental impacts.
- Build relationships with colleagues, contractors, regulators, and local communities.
- Develop expertise in environmental compliance, consenting, and risk management.
- Support responsible delivery by helping ensure projects balance environmental, planning, and regulatory requirements.

The role sits within SSEN Transmission's Consents & Environment teams, working with engineering and construction teams, contractors, regulators, and local communities.
Key details
- Based in Aberdeen, Inverness, or Perth, Scotland; full-time with Flexible First options.
- Commences September 2027; salary £35,000 per annum.
- Prepares graduates for a Consents and Environment Manager career within SSEN Transmission.
- Requires right to work in the UK (sponsorship may be available for some roles); criminality and credit checks required.
- Closes 1 November 2026.
Requirements
- A minimum 2:2 honours degree (achieved or expected) in Geography, Town Planning, Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Biodiversity Net Gain, Environmental Restoration, Natural Sciences, Biology, Zoology, or PR and Communications.
- Enjoys analysing information, solving problems, and identifying practical solutions.
- A genuine interest in infrastructure development and stakeholder engagement.
- Curious, adaptable, and motivated to learn, with strong collaboration skills.
- Takes ownership and approaches challenges with initiative.
