Job Description
Position summary
Stripe is hiring a Climate Program Manager to set the strategy and lead the execution and reporting for its corporate net zero program. The role partners with stakeholders inside and outside Stripe, including Accounting, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Facilities, Sales and carbon accounting and assurance providers, to refine the greenhouse gas inventory, deliver a reduction and removal roadmap that meets Stripe’s climate targets, and provide inputs to global ESG disclosures.
Why this role matters
Stripe’s Climate team aims to accelerate the company’s path to net zero in parallel with the world’s, by reducing emissions and leading initiatives to build sufficient carbon removal capacity. Having launched Stripe Climate and the Frontier advance market commitment, Stripe’s net zero program is entering a new phase focused on streamlining emissions measurement, creating a template for catalytic reductions, and championing removals while meeting expanding ESG disclosure requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Own net zero strategy (~15%) including Stripe’s transition plan, priorities, budget, annual goals, emissions forecasts, removal retirements and progress tracking, staying current on evolving disclosure requirements and best practices.
- Build emissions measurement (~30%) by producing Stripe’s annual greenhouse gas inventory: collecting data inputs, evolving methodology, managing footprint vendors, running a rigorous, auditable cross-functional process, and identifying AI opportunities to improve it.
- Deliver emissions reporting (~30%) as subject-matter expert, providing inputs to ESG controllership for regulatory disclosures and to customers for RFPs.
- Manage the reduction program (~25%) by developing emissions reduction initiatives, including securing renewable electricity for Scope 2 and supporting high-impact interventions such as carbon removal and lower-emission data centers.
Team and stakeholders
The role sits on Stripe’s Climate team and partners across Accounting, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Facilities and Sales, as well as external carbon accounting and assurance providers and footprint vendors, serving as Stripe’s subject-matter expert on corporate emissions.
Key details
- US-based role; office-assigned Stripes are generally expected to spend at least 50% of the month in their local office or with users (varies by role, team and location).
- Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus, 401(k), medical/dental/vision and wellness stipends.
Requirements
Essential
- BA or BS degree.
- 5 to 7+ years of experience in corporate sustainability, climate strategy, carbon accounting, environmental consulting or a related field.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, adept at translating complexity into clear recommendations.
- A track record of generating and implementing ambitious emissions reduction initiatives.
- Strong quantitative skills and expertise in emissions accounting and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Preferred
- Having led a corporate climate program in a sector with a significant Scope 3 footprint, ideally technology or financial services.
- A self-starter with a track record of measurable reductions through clean energy, cloud usage and supplier engagement.
- Working knowledge of major emissions accounting and climate reporting standards (such as CSRD, California SB 253, GHG Protocol) and experience with Watershed or similar enterprise carbon management platforms.
- Experience partnering with controllership partners on a GHG inventory process meeting limited or reasonable assurance requirements.
- An exceptionally fast learner, comfortable ramping on new reduction technologies and sustainability standards.
