Event Details

The World Circular Economy Forum 2026 will be held in India in autumn 2026, with the exact time and location yet to be announced. Organized as a global initiative of Finland and the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, WCEF is a landmark circular economy event that brings together business leaders, policymakers, experts, innovators, and international organizations to present the world’s leading circular economy solutions. The forum focuses on how circular models can create new business opportunities, jobs, and competitive advantage while helping address the planetary crisis and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Purpose and Objectives

The primary purpose of the World Circular Economy Forum is to accelerate the global transition to a fair, competitive, and carbon-neutral circular economy. The forum is designed to show how businesses, governments, and institutions can move beyond linear production and consumption models by adopting circular solutions that reduce waste, extend material value, cut emissions, and support more sustainable growth. Its objective is to connect practical circular economy innovation with policy, investment, and business action so that environmental goals and economic competitiveness can advance together.

Key Activities

The annual WCEF typically includes plenary and parallel sessions, keynote speeches, thematic discussions, networking opportunities, Accelerator Sessions, Side Events, and regional or thematic WCEF+ events. According to Sitra, the annual forum can include up to 17 plenary and parallel sessions, while partner-led Accelerator Sessions and Side Events expand the programme throughout the year. Previous editions have featured global participation from business, government, policy, finance, industry, and sustainability stakeholders, with each year focused on a distinct circular economy theme.

Significance

The World Circular Economy Forum is significant because it is one of the leading global platforms dedicated specifically to scaling circular economy solutions. Its focus on business competitiveness, environmental impact, and policy collaboration makes it relevant for companies, governments, investors, cities, development organizations, and sustainability professionals seeking practical pathways to reduce resource use and build more resilient economies. The 2026 edition’s planned location in India is especially important, as it brings the forum to one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing markets, where circular economy models can play a major role in manufacturing, infrastructure, waste management, resource efficiency, and sustainable development.

Expected Outcomes

The event is expected to support stronger global collaboration around circular economy policy, business models, investment, and implementation. Participants are likely to leave with a clearer understanding of scalable circular solutions, stronger networks across public and private sectors, and practical insight into how circular economy strategies can create value while reducing pressure on natural resources. Based on Sitra’s official positioning, WCEF is designed to move circular economy thinking from discussion to action by showcasing solutions that align business growth with environmental responsibility.
