Event Details

North America Climate Summit (NACS) 2025: organized by IETA in collaboration with the International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP) and several global and regional partners. The event will be held 23-25 September 2025 at Convene 360 Madison, New York City. It is an in-person summit bringing together over 800 participants including carbon market practitioners, governments, business leaders, and innovators from across North America and beyond.

Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of NACS 2025 is to advance the development and integrity of carbon markets, strengthen climate ambition, and foster practical solutions for clean energy and climate policy. It aims to provide a forum for sharing the latest updates on compliance carbon markets in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico; explore implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement; examine mechanisms like ICAO’s CORSIA; and offer insights into carbon accounting, disclosure, and high integrity standards.

Key Activities

The summit will include high-level plenaries, strategic roundtables, and deep-dive technical sessions. There will also be “Spotlight Sessions” addressing specific sub-topics like carbon removals (natural and engineered), interoperability across markets, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), risk management and insurance in carbon finance, and advances in digital technologies / AI in carbon markets. The format spans three days and includes side events, member-only or invite-only meetings, and receptions / networking opportunities.

Significance

Taking place in New York, coinciding with New York Climate Week and the UN General Assembly (thus benefiting from amplified global attention), NACS 2025 is especially timely. Carbon markets are under increasing pressure to deliver credible emissions reductions, align with evolving regulatory frameworks, and integrate climate risk. For North America, which has multiple compliance systems and varying policy environments, this summit serves as a critical convergence point to align practices, push for harmonization, and drive forward the transition to cleaner, lower-carbon economies.

Expected Outcomes

Attendees are expected to leave with deeper understanding of where carbon compliance markets are headed in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico; clarity on progress and challenges around Article 6; ideas and tools for improving transparency, verification, and accounting in carbon markets; plus new collaborations or commitments around carbon removals, CCUS, and market interoperability. Another expected outcome is that businesses, governments, and market actors will be better equipped to respond to emerging regulatory and policy signals (e.g. CBAM, disclosure standards) and to integrate high-integrity carbon mechanisms in their climate strategies.
