Event Details

Latin America Climate Summit 2026 will take place from 2 to 4 June 2026 at EGADE Business School and Escuela de Gobierno y Transformación Pública del Tec de Monterrey in Mexico. Organized by IETA and hosted by the Secretary of Environment of Nuevo León, the 12th edition of LACS is positioned as a leading regional gathering for carbon market practitioners, experts, investors, policymakers, communities, and government representatives across Latin America and the Caribbean. The 2026 theme, “The New Carbon Order – Building Demand-Led Carbon Markets,” focuses on how carbon market systems can support credible climate action and sustainable economic growth.

Purpose and Objectives

The primary purpose of Latin America Climate Summit 2026 is to strengthen the role of carbon markets in advancing climate action across Latin America and the Caribbean. The event is designed to bring together regional leadership and global perspectives around emerging emissions trading systems, carbon taxes, international market mechanisms, and innovation-driven infrastructure. Its objective is to support demand-led carbon markets that are credible, investable, and capable of helping governments, businesses, and communities scale climate solutions.

Key Activities

LACS 2026 will include in-person discussions, high-level sessions, expert-led conversations, policymaker engagement, market-focused programming, networking opportunities, and direct exchange between carbon market stakeholders. The event will feature simultaneous English-Spanish translation, making it accessible to a wider regional and international audience. Core discussion areas are expected to include emissions trading systems, carbon taxes, voluntary and compliance markets, international carbon mechanisms, climate finance, market infrastructure, community engagement, and the future of carbon pricing across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Significance

Latin America Climate Summit 2026 is significant because it provides a dedicated regional platform for shaping carbon market architecture at a time when Latin America and the Caribbean are increasingly important to global climate finance, nature-based solutions, and carbon credit supply. By convening around 800 delegates, the summit creates space for policymakers, investors, project developers, communities, innovators, and market practitioners to align on how carbon markets can create both climate and economic value. Its Mexico location and Nuevo León government hosting further strengthen the event’s relevance for regional policy, investment, and market development.

Expected Outcomes

The event is expected to support stronger collaboration across Latin America’s carbon market ecosystem while helping participants understand emerging policy frameworks, market mechanisms, infrastructure needs, and investment opportunities. Attendees are likely to leave with clearer insight into how demand-led carbon markets can scale credibly, stronger regional and global networks, and practical perspectives on aligning carbon pricing, finance, and market innovation with sustainable growth. Based on the official positioning, LACS 2026 is designed to help move Latin America’s carbon market conversation from ambition to implementation, credibility, and measurable climate impact.
