Executive Certificate in Carbon Markets, offered by Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), is an executive education programme designed to provide professionals with a comprehensive understanding of carbon markets, carbon trading, and carbon management practices. Developed in response to the growing importance of carbon pricing and market-based climate solutions, the programme equips participants with knowledge of compliance markets, voluntary carbon markets, carbon project development, and carbon measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV). 

Core Content

The programme is structured across three modules covering climate action fundamentals, carbon market mechanisms, trading systems, carbon project development, MRV, and corporate carbon strategies.

Module 1: Climate Action and Essentials of Carbon Markets explores climate science, the transition to a zero-carbon economy, carbon pricing mechanisms, climate negotiations, nature-based solutions, renewable energy technologies, carbon capture utilisation and storage, and the development of voluntary and sectoral carbon markets.

Module 2: Carbon Markets and Trading focuses on carbon project development, carbon standards and methodologies, emissions trading systems, compliance markets, governance frameworks including UNFCCC and CORSIA, technological innovation, and transition credits.

Module 3: Carbon MRV, Corporate Insetting and Offsetting covers emissions measurement, reporting and verification frameworks, carbon accounting practices, target setting, validation standards, corporate insetting strategies, carbon offset procurement, and future opportunities in carbon markets. 

Key Skills

Participants will develop the ability to understand how carbon markets operate, evaluate carbon projects, and assess the role of carbon credits in corporate climate strategies. The programme builds skills in carbon accounting, MRV frameworks, emissions trading, carbon pricing, climate policy, carbon project evaluation, sustainability strategy, offsetting and insetting approaches, and carbon market governance.

Learning Format

The programme is delivered through an intensive nine-day executive format divided into three standalone modules of three days each. Participants can complete all three modules to earn the Executive Certificate or attend individual modules separately. The programme combines expert-led sessions, case discussions, practical applications, and industry perspectives. The 2026 intakes are scheduled for 12–14 August, 2–4 September, and 7–9 October 2026, with sessions delivered by Nanyang Business School at NTU Singapore.
