Course Details

Carbon Accounting & Climate Targets, offered by Amsterdam Business School at the University of Amsterdam, is a professional masterclass designed to help participants understand the principles of carbon accounting and integrate climate targets into organisational strategy. The two-day programme focuses on measuring greenhouse gas emissions, developing climate strategies, and understanding how carbon accounting supports business decision-making and sustainability transformation.

The masterclass covers key concepts of carbon accounting based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, organisational greenhouse gas inventories, climate target-setting methodologies, and decarbonisation pathways. Learners explore how carbon accounting influences different business processes, how organisations can develop climate impact strategies, and the implications of regulatory developments such as the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) for corporate climate approaches.

Participants will develop practical skills in greenhouse gas measurement, carbon inventory development, climate target setting, emissions management, and decarbonisation planning. The programme builds capabilities in applying carbon accounting frameworks, understanding climate regulations, identifying organisational emissions sources, evaluating climate strategies, and integrating climate considerations into business operations.

Learning Format


The programme is delivered as a two-day in-person masterclass at the Roeterseiland campus of the University of Amsterdam. The course is taught in English and combines expert-led sessions, practical learning activities, and peer discussions in a small-group setting with a maximum of 20 participants. The upcoming session is scheduled for 25–26 November 2026, running from 09:00 to 17:00 each day, with participants receiving a Certificate of Attendance upon completion.
